Also known as the Chinese gooseberry, is a small, green fruit that packs a powerful nutritional punch.

So what are the key benefits that the little ole kiwi can give us?

Rich Source of Vitamins and Minerals:

Kiwi is exceptionally high in vitamin C (more than oranges!!), which is essential for immune function, skin health, and wound healing. It also contains vitamin K, vitamin E, vitamin A, and several B vitamins.

In terms of minerals, it provides a good amount of potassium, calcium, and magnesium.

Antioxidant Properties: Kiwi is loaded with antioxidants, that’s your vitamin C, vitamin E, and various phytochemicals like quercetin and lutein. These compounds help neutralize harmful free radicals in the body, reducing oxidative stress and inflammation.

Dietary Fiber: Kiwi is a good source of dietary fiber, which aids in digestion, helps regulate blood sugar levels, and supports heart health. The fiber content also promotes a feeling of fullness, making it a great snack.

Aids Digestion: Kiwi contains an enzyme called actinidin, which is known for its protein-digesting properties. This can be beneficial for those who have difficulty digesting certain proteins.

Promotes Heart Health: The combination of high vitamin C content, potassium, and fibre in kiwi supports heart health. Potassium helps regulate blood pressure, and the fibre helps control cholesterol levels.

Supports Eye Health: The presence of lutein and zeaxanthin in kiwi contributes to eye health. These antioxidants are known to protect against age-related macular degeneration and cataracts.

Boosts Immunity: The high vitamin Ccontent in kiwi is well-known for its immune-boosting properties. It helps stimulate the production of white blood cells and antibodies, enhancing the body’s defense against infections which as we move towards winter months is super helpful.

Contributes to Skin Health: The combination of vitamin C, vitamin E, and other antioxidants in kiwi helps maintain healthy skin. Vitamin C is crucial for collagen production, which gives skin its elasticity and youthful appearance.

So this little green fruit is super useful for our health!

I enjoy kiwi with natural yoghurt (with live cultures), blueberries and seeds.
